In the story “A meeting in the Dark” misogyny is used against women to destroy tribal identity. In the story Wamuhu is pregnant with John’s baby but is still looked down upon and is treated very poorly. Because of the misogyny towards her she is seen as an out cast and her tribal identity is skewed. Wamuhu is the one with real power though, she can give life. She is going to birth a baby which gives her more power. But, because of the misogyny towards women she is looked as a miscreant when in fact she owns John and he knows it. He makes it so that John “felt as if she was deliberately blackmailing him.” (105) she knows that with the baby she controls him and her identity changes to the leader or ruler. Misogyny is the real cause of the destruction of tribal identity and the changes Wamuhu goes through with having a baby and in the end her own death.
